A few highlights of Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations
The birthday party of the year got going under blue skies and sunshine in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday April 21.
From the official duties in a packed Bridge Street and Holy Trinity Church, to the fun activities in Bancroft Gardens, Bell Court, Henley Street and Hall’s Croft, the party atmosphere was felt by everyone involved and thousands of spectators.
Congratulations to the brilliant community group Rubbish Friends, who help to keep Stratford tidy with litter picks and education, who won this year’s community literary pageant – dressed as Wombles! If you want to get involved with their work, join their Facebook page.
On Sunday, there’s another procession, this time from the Town Hall to Holy Trinity Church, ending with the Shakespeare Service at Holy Trinity Church. The markets and family fun continue, while the Living Statues Competition runs until 4pm, when the winner is announced.
