New RSC production for children

A new RSC production for children is hitting both the stage in Stratford-upon-Avon and local schools from October.

What is the new RSC production for children?

Running until December, director Alex Thorpe has created a special version of William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. It is primarily aimed at 7-13 year olds.

As part of the successful First Encounters series, the play is heavily edited but still uses the language of Shakespeare’s original text.

The Royal Shakespeare Company says “The Comedy of Errors is a twin-tastic 90 minutes of comic confusion and mistaken identity aimed at 7 to 13 year olds, but hugely entertaining whatever your age”.

When does The Comedy of Errors begin?

After an initial run in schools in Leamington and Warwick, The Comedy of Errors comes to the Swan Theatre on Friday October 19.

Other public performances at the Swan Theatre are on Sat Oct 20; Thu 25, Fri 25 and Sat 26 Oct; and Thu 1 and Fri 2 Nov.

Each performance during the tour will feature up to 20 local children who will get involved in the opening speech. Schools taking part will also get involved in set decoration.

Alex Thorpe said: “The RSC’s First Encounter’s productions have a long and exciting history of not only giving young audiences their early experiences of Shakespeare and theatre, but also actively involving them in the making of it.”

After an initial run in Warwickshire schools and the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, The Comedy of Errors will tour schools and theatres in Northampton, Blackpool, Middlesbrough, Bishop Auckland, Kent, Hull, York, Bradford, and Stoke-on-Trent.
