The hotel, in Rother Street, offers a sublime Afternoon Tea for £22.50. Given the building’s history as the town registry office – a place that would have witnessed many happy marriages – it seems fitting to watch a royal one here. Booking essential.

Fingers crossed for a dry and bright day for the Royal Wedding, as the Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe, just a 10-minute/two-mile drive from Stratford town centre, will serve afternoon tea in their gorgeous landscaped grounds, with views of the Victorian mansion.

Arriving at 11am, ready to watch the wedding at midday, you will enjoy afternoon tea with coffee or tea, and a glass, plus top up, of prosecco. Gin, lemon and elderflower cocktails are available for £5 too. Tickets cost £30 per person.

Chelsea and Manchester United vie for the trophy at 5.15pm, so it’ll be an all-dayer if you plan to see Prince Harry tie the knot and the FA Cup title tie. A full English breakfast is available from 10.30am for £7.

The town-centre venue, in Church Street, gets the party started on Friday May 18, with British and American covers from a live band and Markle’s Sparkle bottles of bubbly for £15 from 5pm-9pm. And, until the 19th, you can indulge in hamper lunches and gin cocktails in teapots. The complete hamper and cocktail package for two costs £34.95.

If you fancy a family day out, the British Motor Museum is just 15 miles/a 25-minute drive from central Stratford-upon-Avon. The museum will screen the Royal Wedding and you can also check out a 1974 Land Rover, which was used as a royal ceremonial vehicle, among many other motors on show.

A slot car festival takes place at the museum over the weekend, and there are plenty of things to see and do for families of all ages. The museum is open 10am-5pm; standard admission costs £14 for adults, £9 for children aged 5-16, under 5s free. Gift Aid it and get a 12-month ticket at no extra cost.

Best for: families who want to see the Royal Wedding (and then something else when you hear, “Mum, Dad, this is booorrring”.)

Magic Alley in Bell Court is also offering free entry on Saturday to Meghans, Harry and Henrys (Prince Harry’s real name).

The wedding is on live at Cox’s Yard, with a host of new British-themed cocktails on the menu, including Elderflower Fizz and English Country Mule.

The Crowne Plaza Stratford-upon-Avon is offering a Royal Afternoon Tea all month long, with cakes, scones and sandwiches, plus a glass of prosecco, for £19.95 per person. Call 01789 279988 to book.

The Old Slaughterhouse cafe, in The Yard off Sheep Street, are offering afternoon tea for just £3.50 on Friday 12.30pm-4pm and Saturday 11am-4pm to celebrate the union.

Nearby Alcester (10 miles/20-minute drive) hosts its popular Food Festival on May 19 and 20, this year featuring a Royal theme. There’s a free park-and-ride service from Adams Way (B49 6PU) and wedding viewings throughout the town.

And if you simply can’t make it on Saturday May 19 but want to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, get along to Morrisons and buy the £7, limited-edition lemon and elderflower cake (created in honour of Harry and Meghan) and have a cuppa and a slice while watching at home.
